Faris Moore: Story of a Life

Faris Moore entered the world as Benjamin Curry Moore on May 6, 1989, the son of Jeri Sisco and Jerry Moore.

He was born in Spokane, Washington, but immediately hit the road, moving to the UK where his brother Zach was born, then back home to Oregon, Alaska, and finally Washington.  Faris graduated from Newberg High School and attended college at Olympic College, where he studied music, one of his true passions, as well as sound technology. He also later completed Job Corps basic and advanced culinary arts training. He changed his name to Faris in 2017 to establish a unique name to support his acting goals.

Professionally, Faris worked in retail and food service positions around the Puget Sound area where he has been remembered fondly by coworkers who have become friends. Most recently, he split time working between Dominos, and before its recent closure in the current pandemic, the Habitat for Humanity Re-store where he enjoyed helping people find items that could be reused for the greater good.

Faris was known throughout the Puget Sound region and beyond for his passions and hobbies. In the Society for Creative Anachronism, a reenactment group studying pre-17th c culture, he was known as Lord Faris of Madrone and was recognized with an Award of Arms by his Kingdom and an Award of the Green Leaf by the Barony of Madrone for his service work. At any event he was at, Faris could be found helping herald announcements and tournaments, setting up and tearing down activities, running errands, and more. He was a beloved part of the SCA community.

In the local fandom community, Faris was active as a cosplayer and anime fan, enjoying properties such as Pokemon, My Hero Academia, InuYasha, and DragonballZ, as well as My Little Pony. He worked on inventive cosplay projects, and was known for his knowledge of his favorite fandoms. He gravitated toward stories that carried messages of doing your best and being kind, which were such a huge part of who he was as a person. His favorite cons were Anime Expo, SakuraCon and Everfree.

Faris’ dream was to become a voice actor, and he trained with many nationally-known coaches toward that goal. He was working on a video game project at the time of his death. In the local theater community, Faris was active as an actor and director who loved being part of the show. He worked on multiple Everfree productions, Bainbridge community theatre’s production of The Secret Garden, and school productions including Arsenic and Old Lace as well as student-written plays. Cast members have commended Faris as someone who pitched in on all parts of the production, helping however was needed and making sure everyone on the cast and crew was supported. One shared a memory of Faris making sure everyone in the troupe got a rose.

Faris passed away unexpectedly from complications of epilepsy in the early hours of Monday, April 27, 2020, just a little over a week shy of his 31st birthday. While his life ended tragically sooner than any of us could have imagined, the number of hearts he touched in his time on earth has been immense. He is survived by his mother, Jeri Sisco, his father, Jerry Moore, his stepfather, Kit Heinrichs, his brother Zachary, his sister-in-law Spenser Moore, his adored niece Lila Moore, his stepsister Amanda Golson, and his grandmothers Marilynn Sisco and Joyce Moore. He is preceded in death by his grandfathers Gerald Sisco and John Moore.
